Hey family! How are you doing?!?!
How has your week been? We have one more day until we shout, ‘THANK GOD IT IS FRIDAY!!!’ The weekends are always a good idea…although I still “work” on the weekends because of ministry, etc. But I would not have any other way!
Time is ticking…tick…tock…tick; in two weeks, we will be saying bye-bye to January 2022!
I am really thrilled about this year (not to sound cliche). I am determined to give it my ALL. What about you? Let’s make 2022 GREAT!!!
Last week, I was home alone with the girls for five days as my husband had to go on a retreat and spend time with God. It wasn’t planned, but I knew it was necessary, so I approved that message when he said he had to go! (the life of a pastor’s wife).
I truly respect and honor single parents. It was ALOT! But thank God for unusual strength. I sailed through with the numerous school runs, meal preps, cleaning, bath times, work, endless meetings, and so on and so on! I also had to preach on Sunday (the life of a pastor). Don’t get me started about how some of my sermon notes got deleted on Sunday morning! Thank God that ministry is not done from your head but through a partnership with God’s Spirit!
If you have help at home, please celebrate and appreciate your helpers or spouse. It definitely wasn’t God’s plan for anyone to do life ALONE! For those currently doing life alone, I pray that God will send you helpers, companions, and support teams!
After church on Sunday, I knew I needed to take a break. My adrenaline rush had died down, the anointing had been released, and my humanity gave me a wake-up call. I rested a bit, but I really wanted to spend time with my girls. A few weeks ago, my second daughter told me that she wanted me to play with them more instead of always working. I decided to be intentional about having undistracted family time this year. Time flies, children grow fast; it is the memories of how those times were spent that will last. I am all for creating fun memories.
On Monday, I dragged myself out of bed and rushed to get the girls ready for school as we were running away. I was shocked as I approached the front of their school, it was empty…no cars, gate locked, it looked like a ghost town! Well of course, duh! It was Martin Luther King Jr. Day! What was I expecting, though? I picked my jaw off the ground, made a U-turn, and humbly drove back home.
My hope of having ample time to rest was dashed! As we drove home, I prepared myself mentally for another full day with my three princesses. After serving them breakfast, I decided to lay down briefly. However, I found myself dozing on and off for a couple of hours. My body forced me to rest. Thankfully, I’ve thought my children to be independent to a degree.
Independence comes at a cost, though! By the time, I woke up my living room looked like a war zone! I couldn’t believe my eyes; there were snacks, toys, etc. all over the floor and dining table. I calmed myself down before I unraveled the good that the forced rest had done to my body. I then summoned the girls and handed them cleaning tools; they started sweeping and cleaning surfaces reluctantly. Yup, they had to learn that there are consequences for their actions.

After that, they were preparing to have lunch, and then daddy showed up earlier than expected. They were ecstatic; they are daddy’s girls, so they were happy he was back! I was glad as well!
Since then, my body has been playing catch up. I love challenges; they force you to build capacity! Last week was a challenge for me, but I am so glad that I pushed myself instead of trying to find an easy way out. I also know that there must be a healthy balance. If you’ve been in this space long enough, you know that I always emphasize the place of rest and recreation while living a life of purpose. Even though I had so many tasks pending, I had to allow my body to recover.

Plus, it has been cold in Houston!!! I was raised in New York, where brutally cold and snowy weather is the order of the day and I do not miss it, I am no longer about that life! I’ve been bundled up and consuming large quantities of hot green tea. I could use some Nigerian pepper soup though,! My readers in Houston, let the Lord use you! Hahaha

Guess what, family! I was a guest on a podcast that I love so much! The Tosh Base Podcast with Shantol McIntosh. I was invited to talk about how to navigate challenging times, handle wearing multiple hats, and pray effectively. Show me some love and listen to the episode, I’ve been receiving some great feedback already and I’d love yours also!

Lastly, I wanted to inform you about some updates to this blog. I am currently working on some urgent writing projects that are way overdue. God has given me another chance to obey and birth what he has placed in my heart. So, I’ll be posting less frequently on here for the next couple of months so I can focus.
