Thriving in 2022

4–6 minutes

Hello DDB family! It’s 2022!!! Woohoo!!!

I see that I have new followers here, and I’d like to introduce myself and officially welcome you to this space briefly.

A little about myself…

As you can tell from my website address, My name is Bunmi Adebiyi. My name is Nigerian; it is a Yoruba (a tribe in Nigeria) name to be precise. My complete name Olubunmi means “gift of God” or “God has given her to me.” I prefer the first meaning; I live my life to be a blessing (gift) to everyone I come in contact with. I believe in empowering people to live the life of their dreams. I am a firm believer that God-inspired dreams do come true if you dare to believe and never give up.

My parents are Nigerian immigrants. I was born in Houston, TX, where I presently reside. However, I was raised in Brooklyn, NY, where I lived until college. I attended Howard University for my bachelor’s degree and Morgan State University for my master’s degree. After college, I lived in the DC>Maryland>Virgina area for seven years until God led me to relocate to Nigeria for a couple of years.

I am married with three children, and I absolutely love my family. When I was a young girl, I would daydream about having my own family, and now that I am living that dream, I sometimes have to pinch myself because it seems too good to be true. When my girls call me “mommy,” I have to remind myself that I am the one they’re referring to. And my husband! He truly surpassed my dreams; our evolving love story indeed is divine.

I am a pastor, and I consider it a privilege to serve my church family. Like anything worth doing, ministry has its fair share of challenges, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It gives me so much fulfillment to partner with God to equip them for their life’s assignment.

After getting fired from my job as a public health professional, my life took on a whole new turn. I decided to embrace my gift of writing entirely finally. I now work as a freelance writer. Stay tuned for some exciting writing projects from me.

The name of this blog is Destination Destiny. I started sharing my personal experiences for over ten years via my blog with the aim to let people know that they are not alone and that God has a great plan for their lives. The journey of life can be filled with many twists and turns, but if you keep your eyes on the prize, you’ll get to your God-ordained destination!

I’d love to meet you, comment below with where you reside!

It is so good to be back here after a short break. I hope you all enjoyed the holiday season! My Christmas staycation was so relaxing; it was much needed. I did not want it to end! I am looking forward to the days when going “back to reality” would not invoke feelings of sadness. Can I get an AMEN to that?!?!

I ended 2021 right, I was in the presence of God at church, and it was great. How is 2022 coming along for you? For me, so far, so good. I’ve been spending a lot of time praying, meditating on God’s Word, thinking deeply about plans for the year, and visualizing my dreams as my realities. God has been speaking to me a lot, and I naturally wanted to be overwhelmed, but I checked myself and tossed my cares and concerns away. I refuse to give in to small thinking this year.

What are your plans for 2022? What are you saying YES to this year? What are you saying NO to this year?

I am saying YES to all God has prepared for me, and I am saying NO to shortchanging myself by giving in to fear and doubt.

After completing my vision board for the year last week, I kept wondering how I would accomplish all the things that I placed on the board. I pondered in my heart, God, do you mean all this will happen in one year? Like seriously?!?! And I would feel his comfort subtly and hear him whisper, “All you have to do is say, yes…I got you.”  So here I am, free-falling into God’s hands.

Have you ever created a vision board? How do you decide on what you put on your board?

I don’t make resolutions; I take time to download God’s plan for the year and go from there because God is the ultimate visionary! He knows the end from the beginning. It makes no sense to waste one’s time by doing trial and error.

If you haven’t done so already, I will encourage you to create a vision board for 2022! It is not too late.

One of my goals for this year is to adopt a healthier lifestyle. I just started a three-day detox, and it’s not fun. I was so sad as I watched my family eat dinner last night; the carbs and meat were calling my name! Pray for me, fam! For the next few days, I will be drinking lots of green smoothies and eating lots of salads while reducing my sodium intake and cutting out sugar. But I am doing it with my future in mind. I need to treat my body better to do destiny without any self-induced hiccups! Let’s get healthier together, fam! Who wants to detox with me :-).

I look forward to a fantastic journey with you all in 2022, I trust God for inspiration to equip you with tools to live a life of significance.

Don’t forget to comment, like, and share!

With lots of love,

– Bunmi Adebiyi
