Embracing Your New Normal

5–8 minutes

Hello everyone, thank you so much for stopping by today!

How is going for you in these unprecedented times?

In a few short weeks A LOT has changed! There is so much occurring at once! Things have definitely changed for all of us; however it is up to you to determine if these changes are for good or bad. In this season, I’ve been encouraging many people to take it a day at a time and make the best of each moment. Choosing to focus on the good in this season instead of the bad, it is what you focus on that will determine your experiences.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve had to give myself a number of pep talks. One major change that has been a bit challenging is having to take on the responsibility of becoming a home-school teacher. I did not sign up for it! It was thrown into my lap! About two weeks ago, I was overwhelmed with this new responsibility because I already have numerous hats that I’ve juggling and to top it off my husband is an essential employee so it is just me and my girls at home all day everyday!

After a few days of feeling extremely fatigued and reacting negatively to my children instead of responding kindly to them, I knew that I had to take it easy before I became burnt out. First of all, I decided to analyze the situation and focus on the good. I was grateful to God that I didn’t have to go into an office everyday and be concerned about the well-being of my children, I was grateful to have healthy children, a comfortable home, resources to educate them, a wonderful support system, a sound mind, good health and much more. I imagined how many people who love to have a family and children of their own and have the opportunity to home-school them. I remembered the times that I prayed for my currently reality (having a family of my own)…I remembered times of loneliness and countless tears after numerous heartbreaks.

There were even times when I entertained the thought of being a stay-at-home mom and the possibility of home-schooling my children…like they often say, be careful what you wish for! … hahaha… or like the bible says, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7)! At my previous place of employment, I would get really stressed from my workload and have little to no energy once I returned home from work. I would feel so guilty because I couldn’t give my children the quality time that they deserved…the struggle was real!

In my gratefulness to God, I received renewed strength to forge ahead, things have not necessarily gotten easier but my new attitude towards everything helped me to keep moving and create structures that would simplify my life. I realized that I couldn’t be everything to everyone at the same time. I started to schedule meetings and phone calls, I create a daily to-do list and check off tasks as I go, I take some ‘me’ time daily and often leave my phone unattended to for some moments, so that I can breathe and clear my head…I’ve watched a couple of movies, read a novel and I am currently reading some spiritual books, I’ve also taken a walk with the family, I’ve had dance parties with my kids and I spend more time praying and studying the bible and it’s all helped tremendously.

God told me something essential last year, and it delivered me from my perfectionist tendencies. He said, “Stop trying to be a superwoman, be a supernatural woman!” A superwoman relies on her own strength and natural abilities, while a supernatural woman is totally dependent on God, and realizes that he alone is her source! I like the supernatural option! I’ll take that!!! It dawned on me that I don’t have to figure it all out alone, I have a treasure residing in me – the precious Holy Spirit, my best friend forever! Nope, I don’t always have it all together and that is perfectly fine!

Now dear reader, our challenges may differ but the truth still remains that we can’t do life by ourselves. We were never designed to be independent. Superheros are fictional, yet divinity expressed through humanity is real! Everything has changed, the world that we once knew a few weeks ago no longer exists; yes, it is a new normal! I remember 9/11 vividly, I was in high school and the news broke while I was in a class. Feelings of fear and uncertainty overwhelmed the air. For days on end, it felt like a cloud of doom hoovered over New York City. Life for us all indeed changed, people of certain nationalities became suspicious, security was heightened everywhere and it changed the way we flew.

But guess what! We made it, we survived! And we will survive and thrive even after COVID-19 (by the way I am so tired about hearing about the coronavirus, covid-19, urgh!). The best way to deal with it all, is to embrace change. Change is inevitable, it is one of the major constants of life. Like it is often said, “what does not kill you, makes it stronger” I like what the bible says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 (KJV). Even though there is so much bad in the atmosphere now, God has the back of those that have a relationship with him and love him. It is going to work out for good, watch God work! Correctly position yourself to walk in the realities of what God has prepared for you; this whole thing did not catch him by surprise, so no worries he already has all the answers and solutions.

How to Embrace Your New Normal:

  1. Accept the fact that things have changed
  2. Pray, Plan and Prepare for the days ahead
  3. Focus on the good and enjoy the moments
  4. Look to God to answer the questions of your heart
  5. Trust God in this season; deepen your relationship with him

Hold your head up! After each storm, the sun always shines again!

I am really blessed by this ma’am. Knowing God and having a relationship with him helps calm me down, especially when there’s a kind of an unexpected change in the world right now, that even affected my wedding. Through it all, I thank God for the gift of life and a special gift of “peace” that he bestowed upon me. It’s so evident that people kept asking, are you sure you are OK? Because you seem unmoved by everything going on. I myself I’m surprised at my maturity at this time. My prayer life has really improved and God keeps telling me that there’s so much surprises after all these Is over. So I’m greatly anticipating what’s going to happen next. I feel so excited.😂
