The Awakening

5–7 minutes

Hello, how is it going?

Over the last few days, for a good number of people, our lives have significantly changed. The coronavirus outbreak is currently the talk of not only the town but nations all over the world. It’s interesting how things have changed so drastically over the last few days.

Schools closes, restaurants only taking to-go or drive-through orders, empty store shelves as people buy out the stores in the wake of the unknown. Officials in the health and government sectors recommending social distancing for a couple of weeks; I even read that one city will be on lock-down for 30 days.

In times like these, it is easy to panic. There’s a lot of ‘what ifs’ and ‘how longs’ without answers. Many are fearful of contracting such a contagious virus, it is evident that the fear of death is REAL. I went to the grocery store yesterday and saw people decked out in masks and gloves…some choosing to carry a bunch of items in their hands instead of using shopping carts or baskets, I saw people looking at others suspiciously, avoiding eye contact and ever ready to run into their cars. I am not judging anyone, to each its own.

These are indeed eerie times; fear is expected from some, but fear never brings any good to any situation. It magnifies the bad and cripples people into inaction. In times like these, I think of those who have no close family, friends or neighbors. Those who going into an office daily was an escape for their loneliness and bouts of depression.

I think about those whose livelihood and that of their families depend on the number of hours they work and the number of tips that they receive. Now, many companies are forced to cut hours, modify their operations or shut down completely.

There is also a fear of poverty lurking around. I remember reading an article where an individual stated “I am going to be very poor now” after her small business stand at a local fair was forced to close shop.

Over the last few days, I’ve been sending prayers up. It’s natural to be afraid, it is normal to be worried. Even though, I am at peace it is my duty as a priest to pray and believe for others. Fellow saints, I encourage you to join me, the world needs our divine input!

This is the best time to preach the gospel and intercede for souls. The world has literally given us an opportunity to social distance and get into our secret place and prayer closets…let’s return to our base!

Some people are considered essential staff and still have to go out daily; their positions can not be worked from home. Here they are putting their own lives at risk to ensure that the needs of others are met and that the community at large is kept safe. If you fall into that category, thank you for all you do!!!

And there are those that have been told to work from home and/or there are parents that have been initiated into homeschooling (that’s me 👋), we can make the best of the extra time at home, alone with ourselves and with others.

Here are a few recommendations:

1. You can wake up like you normally would and spend extra time in fellowship with God (pray, worship, take confession, read/study the bible)

2. Incorporate home workouts or an outdoor work out into your schedule (health is wealth; exercise can boost your immune system; and summertime is around the corner, don’t be caught slipping!)

3. Meal prep, so you won’t be tempted to overeat or eat unhealthily (you can also create a food schedule/timetable)

4. Spend quality time with loved ones; using the extra time to bond (you won’t get this time back!)

5. Develop a schedule or structure that will keep things running smoothly and improve on existing systems

6. Take an online course (learn something new, develop your skills, etc.)

7. Read books (gain new knowledge, dive into a fun read, etc.)

8. Write that book! Start that project! Write that business plan! Work on that proposal!

9. Clean!!! (It is highly important that we clean our environment in this time).

10. Take a break! Relax! Rest! Play a game! Watch a movie! Do something fun! Take naps or sleep in a little!

The bottom line is this: refuse to be idle. It is times of solitude, that often bring about great discoveries! This is still going to be a good year and a great decade! There are ‘shakings’ going on around the world because it is time to pay attention to the things that are more important. When the ‘busyiness’ and hustling and bustling seizes, what remains? This is the time to figure it all out.

Some people have neglected the urgent for the seemingly important; some have traded their souls for the climb up the ladder; some have abandoned dreams for shadows; and the list goes on.

I see this as a season of restoration…a factory resetting back to default mode. It is a time to be sensitive and proactive. In this season results will trump excuses. Those that have been making silent moves will be brought into the limelight. There is an awakening of sleeping giants; a wake-up call to visionaries, inventors and creatives! It is time to ARISE and manifest!

Use all means necessary to spread the good news, there are some people on your timeline that need to know the truth and receive peace. The peace that we believers have is meant to be shared and not hoarded. Call up an old friend or colleague and see how they’re doing; reach out and encourage someone today! Ask how you can help, be a blessing, pray with them, meet a need.

When it is all said and done, this will pass! The end of this plague is near and you’ll live to testify that you made it through the Cornavirus pandemic of 2020!

Thanks for reading today!

How are you holding up? Have you been asked to limit social interaction? If so, how has it been? How are you coping with all that is going on? What has kept you going?

With lots of love,
