Supernatural Woman: Perspective is Everything!

4–6 minutes

Heyyyyy family! What’s up?

I hope your week has been going great! Mine has been incredible!

I am the proudest mother in the world right now!!! My first daughter graduated from kindergarten, and she received five awards! Including the Principal’s Award, she graduated top of her class! I legit cried happy tears. And my second baby graduated from PreK and received seven awards, plus her teachers gave her dad and me a special shout-out for being exceptional parents!

As you can tell, I am on top of the world right now! Transitioning from in-person to virtual school and back to in-person came with its fair share of challenges. At times, I was extremely overwhelmed as I had to juggle many things at once. But I thank God because hard work pays off! REJOICE with me family! Thank God for me!

I want to say thank you to everyone for all the feedback from my previous post; let’s keep that same energy from henceforth! Now let’s continue where we left off…

Thankfully my order of broiled shrimp, potatoes, and sausages was a hit! It was yummy and comforting at the same time. Each bite of deliciousness numbed the side effects of the shocking news of the baby’s sex.

At the end of the day, I got over it! Each child, irrespective of gender, is a gift from God. I was not going to be ungrateful after the battles I had to fight to become a mother. I was not going to undermine the wait. Her conception was miraculous; she did come when we wanted; she came when God said it was time. So I began to love up on my baby girl.

Plus, I had bigger fish to fry; I needed to settle down and figure out what was next. I needed to talk to my heavenly father so he could point me in the right direction. After all, this did not catch him by surprise. So I began to ask him questions; I spent a lot of time listening out for his voice.

One day as I was going about my business, God dropped a big one on me. He whispered to my heart, “Buy your former supervisor a gift for her baby.” My response to that instruction was not great. I ranted, “Really! God, are you serious?”; But, I already contributed to the purchase of gifts for her with my former colleagues!”; “I need to be saving money; I have a baby on the way with no source of income!”.

When I did not get a response to my ranting sessions that spanned a few days, I decided to calm down. The nudging continued; it was subtle but firm. I eventually threw up my hands and reluctantly obeyed. I dragged my feet as I searched for her baby registry online. I searched through the items and added some into my cart; then, I proceeded with the purchase. I was so upset; why did God always put me in these types of positions! Didn’t I have a right to be upset and be in my feelings?!?!

God’s ways are superior to our ways. His ways may appear foolish, but they’re endowed with wisdom. He would never ask you to do anything that will harm you. He was trying to teach me a lesson. He wanted me to understand that love conquers all. He wanted me to forgive and let go so that I could move forward. There is always a reward at the end of every God-given instruction.

Shortly after purchasing the gift, I got a note in the mail. When I saw who it was from, I was surprised and wondered what she possibly had to say. I opened up the envelope, slowly pulled out the card, and opened it.

“Bunmi, Thank you so much for the onesies and blanket. I truly appreciate your thoughts and prayers, and please know that I still think about you and pray for your family and the health of your baby boy. May God continue to bless you and yours.”

At first, I was rendered speechless; I did not know how to respond since I had unconsciously blamed her for the sadness I’d been feeling for weeks. I read the thank you note a few times. I wanted to believe that she was sincere, but I was not in the right frame of mind.

And then she assumed that I was having a boy! *laughs* I showed the note to my husband, and he smiled, “That’s nice of her!” I was annoyed; I needed a pity party partner, and he was not interested. I was on the verge of being bitter, and I had to snap out of it!

My husband said a few things at church on Sunday that were profound while he preached. He said, Challenges are constant; regardless of who you are”; “Challenges often attempt to lead to amnesia of the goodness and power of God.”; “There is no champion without a battle.”; “As a believer, you are not permitted to get knocked out and stay down.”

These statements are so true! When challenges come against us, it means that it is time to level up! Promotions come as a result of tests and assessments! Your capacity needs to be increased in order for you to take and be more. Challenges will always question your identity; they will stare you in the face and ask, “Who are you?”. If you face them from the consciousness of who you are instead of what you’re going through, you will overcome them gracefully!

People are never your problem; your perspective of them is!
