Hello there! Glad to have you here!

In today’s post, I continue the Dear Bunmi series. It is a series that addresses myself at various stages of my life in retrospect.

The aim of this series is to encourage people going through similar issues and phases. It is a reminder that tough times don’t last. It is not over until it is good! You either win or learn!

Dear Bunmi,

Two and a half years later and you find yourself heartbroken, confused, afraid and alone. You were indeed STUCK, you knew that the relationship was bond to fail but somehow you hoped for a miracle to happen. Until he called it quits, it wasn’t the first time but you knew without a shadow of doubt that this was the final time…no more making up after the breakups.

This relationship was different in a terrible way, it broke you down completely. It stripped you of the minute amount of self esteem you had. You became emotionally bankrupt, you ended up feeling taken advantage of…you beat yourself up for not walking away sooner and selling yourself short. You were never truly happy with him, you were happy with the idea of one day becoming the couple you dreamed of…a fairy tale romance that never came into existence.

Your world revolved around him, now you find yourself alone. Mutual friends have vanished, admirers of your once relationship now give you funny looks; some that are bold enough, start to question the demise of your relationship without any sympathy. You blame yourself and secretly wished that you can disappear. You feel like you have disappointed many, your family was also invested in the relationship. Unofficial marriage plans have now ended abruptly.

Bunmi, you will get through this. Remember the most important relationship that you’ll ever be in. It is with God, your father. No matter how far you feel like you’ve drifted, he has always been with you. And he is still with you now, just acknowledge him and run back into his arms. He is the only one that can help you through this. You have come to a critical place in your life, the decisions you make now will determine the rest of your life.

But no worries, you do not have to figure it out on your own. Just trust him, I promise you, your heart is safe in his hands. Your life blossoms in his hands, he is the source of it and he is the only one that can sustain it. So don’t throw in the towel now, don’t beat yourself up. It is a new season, although it will be tough at times it will give birth to great things. Like the winter, it may be brutal, uncomfortable, cold and harsh. But after winter comes spring! Spring represents growth, rebirth, and rejuvenation. Enjoy the transitioning, it will give birth to the woman that you were created to be!
